Asbestos in the Home

There are asbestos-containing materials in many buildings and homes in the UK, and there will be asbestos in a number of properties owned by GHA.

GHA is committed to making sure that all materials containing asbestos in your home are safe, and we have produced a booklet about Asbestos in the Home for all our residents and customers. It provides basic information about what asbestos is, where it might be found, and why it should not be a problem.

As part of the GHA asbestos policy, we are carrying out surveys of all communal and public areas in accordance with Asbestos Regulations. The findings from these surveys are being put into a register where the type, location and condition of asbestos-containing materials are recorded. This will help us to monitor and manage the possible risk of asbestos fibres being released into the air.

The General Rule is:

Materials containing asbestos that are in good condition and left undisturbed do not pose a risk to your health.
